Background
Jacob Deutsch was a New York-based property manager and co-owner of BH Management.
The Case
In January 2024, Deutsch was sentenced in Connecticut to 62 months in prison for his role in a massive mortgage fraud scheme. Prosecutors stated that between September 2016 and May 2021, Deutsch and his associate Aron Deutsch conspired to defraud various financial institutions, including Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, and HUD, by providing false information in connection with nearly $50 million in mortgage loans for 24 multifamily housing properties in Hartford. The scheme involved submitting falsified rent rolls and fake leases, and even staging unoccupied apartments with furniture to deceive inspectors into believing the units were occupied by rent-paying tenants. This deception led lenders to issue loans that they otherwise would not have approved.
The Pardon
On January 15, 2026, President Trump granted Deutsch a commutation of sentence.
